Mercari fees explained

Mercari is one of the cleaner fee structures in resale. Since January 2025 sellers pay a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping, and that's it: there's no separate payment processing fee for sellers, and listing is free. Buyers pay their own 3.6% Buyer Protection fee at checkout, which doesn't come out of your payout. Cashing out by direct deposit is free; Instant Pay costs $3. The thing to watch is shipping: if you offer free shipping, the label cost comes straight out of your margin, so price with the label in mind.

FAQ

Common questions about Mercari fees

What are Mercari's seller fees?
Mercari charges a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. Since January 6, 2025 there's no separate payment processing fee for sellers; buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee at checkout instead. There are no listing fees, no monthly fees, and no ad fees unless you choose to pay to promote a listing.
Does Mercari charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Since January 2025 the 10% selling fee applies to the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays: on a $30 item with $6 buyer-paid shipping, the fee is $3.60. There's no processing fee on top. If you offer free shipping, the shipping cost comes straight out of your margin.
Does Mercari charge to promote listings?
Only if you opt in. Paid promotion isn't part of the base 10% fee, so check the current cost in the app before you turn it on. It can help slow listings sell but eats into margin, so it usually makes more sense on higher-priced items that have sat for a while than on cheap ones.
How does Mercari shipping work?
Mercari pre-pays shipping labels for the seller — you don't buy your own postage. The buyer pays at checkout, Mercari deducts the label cost, and you ship using the pre-paid label. Mercari Standard rates are competitive with USPS retail, and Mercari Pack rates (for very small items) are often cheaper than buying labels yourself.
Are Mercari fees a problem on cheap items?
Less than they used to be. Since January 2025 Mercari has no flat processing fee for sellers, so a $10 sale costs $1 in fees (10%), plus 10% of any shipping the buyer pays. On cheap items the bigger risk is offering free shipping, since the label can cost more than the fee.
How fast does Mercari pay sellers?
Funds become available to withdraw after the buyer rates the order. Direct deposit to your bank is free (a $2 fee applies only if a deposit fails), or Instant Pay gets the money to you faster for $3 per cashout.
How much does Mercari take from a $100 sale?
$10.00, using the rates in the calculator above: a 10% selling fee ($10.00). You keep $90.00 before shipping and what you paid for the item. 10% of item price plus buyer-paid shipping. No seller payment processing fee (buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee).
What do I need to sell for on Mercari to take home $50?
$55.56. At that price the fees come to $5.56, leaving $50.00. That is before shipping and what you paid for the item, so add both on top to find a price that actually clears $50 profit.
Which takes less on a $50 sale: Mercari, eBay or Depop?
On base fees, Mercari takes $5.00 (you keep $45.00); eBay takes $7.20 (you keep $42.80); Depop takes $2.10 (you keep $47.90). Depop leaves you the most. These use each marketplace's default rate from our calculators; category rates, promoted listings and who pays shipping change the real number.
