How to Fill eBay Item Specifics (and Why They Matter)

Item specifics are the labelled details on an eBay listing: brand, type, colour, material, size. Buyers use them to filter search results, so a blank one can keep your item out of a filtered search. This tutorial shows how Prelo handles them. The item in the video uses example data.

The Item specifics card

Open a drafted item in Prelo and scroll to Item specifics. It shows how many of eBay's recommended specifics for that category are filled. Which specifics count depends on the category: eBay keeps a list for each one, so if the category is wrong, fix it first.

Filled only from evidence

Prelo fills a specific only when there's evidence for it:

• something you typed,
• something your title or description says,
• or a reading from your photos that matches one of eBay's allowed values.

Everything else is listed under Missing — only you can confirm these. Some rows have a suggestion, with where it came from: your description, your title or the photos. Check it before you tap it. Choose or type a value and press Save. Filled specifics move under Show filled.

Required specifics

If eBay requires a specific and it's still blank, the card tells you. At publish, Prelo fills a best guess or "Does Not Apply". Size is never guessed.

In the editor

You can also edit specifics in the editor, under Item Specifics. Press Add for a new row, type the name, then the value. For more than one value, separate them with commas. The bin icon removes a row. They're sent to eBay with the listing.

New, branded items

For new items with a brand or barcode, a price check can also match the item to eBay's catalog and fill the blanks from there. Tutorial 10 covers that.
